Homemade biscuits are quick and easy to make and taste far superior to the store bought cans or frozen ones. In about 30 minutes or less you will have about two dozen biscuits. Follow the simple steps below to make quick, easy, and cheap biscuits.
.Difficulty: Easy
Instructions.Things You'll Need:
2 Cup flour
1 TBL (tablespoon)baking powder
1 tsp (teaspoon) salt
½ Cup cold butter
¾ Cup milk
Time: 30-minutes or less
1
Preheat the oven to 450° degrees Fahrenheit. (232° Celsius)
2
Combine dry ingredients, flour, baking powder, and salt in a medium size mixing bowl. Mix the ingredients to distribute the salt and baking powder throughout the flour.
3
Add the butter: Cut in butter until it resembles coarse crumbs. You can cut in the butter with a pastry cutter. If you don't have one, use your fingers. Add the butter to the dry ingredients and with your fingers break up the butter until the butter looks like tiny balls.
4
Add the milk: Stir in milk until a dough ball forms. You can use your hands to assist if the ball does not completely form while stirring.
5
Kneading the dough: Place the ball onto lightly floured surface such as a counter or cutting board. Kneed five to six times by gathering the dough into a ball and then flatten it with the palm of your hand. The dough ball will then be ready to be flattened.
6
Roll out the dough: Use a rolling pin or the palm of your hand; evenly flatten the dough to about ½ inch thickness.
7
Cutting biscuits: Cut the dough out with any shape cookie cutter approximately 2 inches in size. It is fun to change the shape depending on the season but round always works well.
8
Backing the biscuits: Place the cut out biscuits onto an ungreased baking sheet and bake for 10 to 12 minutes at 450° degrees. The biscuits will turn a golden brown when ready.
9
Cooling the biscuits: Once out of the oven, place the biscuits a wire rake or plate to cool. Odds are they won't have time to cool off before they are gone! Makes about 24 biscuits
